Every spring Gatineau does a big housecleaning. The effort normally takes six to eight weeks and covers the entire territory.
The operations involve cleaning the streets, major road artery medians, sidewalks, parks and recreational pathways.
Gatineau is counting on its residents' help in the cleanup. Here are a few things each of us can do at our end:
clean the yard before the street sweepers come through so they can pick up the stone dust brushed onto the street. It is important to avoid piling these stones into little mounds because the sweepers are meant to pick up loose debris only;
avoid parking on the street during the sweeping operations;
remove basketball hoops, hockey goals and recycling, composting and garbage bins that could get in the way of the street sweepers; and
pick up garbage in the parks and along the recreational pathways.
The cleanup operations will follow a set route and will coincide with the prepping of the sports fields and the cleanup of the parks and their facilities.
The bike paths will open on April 30.
