Gatineau's Web site is accessible to people who have difficulty reading

Gatineau has identified a number of measures it wants to introduce over the next few years in the quest for universal access. They include using different means of communication so that all residents can have access to municipal information. One of these aims to make the Web site more accessible to people with various disabilities. Users can now hear the text posted on the Web site read to them out loud simply by downloading the free BrowseAloud software.

With BrowseAloud, visitors to the Gatineau Web site can position their cursor over the text and hear it read to them. Users get to pick the voice, language and method of highlighting.

It`s easy to use BrowseAloud!

Download the free BrowseAloud software. Once the software is installed, everything on the Web site can be heard simply by moving the cursor over the text you want to have read to you. Simply highlight the text you want and click on “Play”.

Minimum configuration required for BrowseAloud version 6 (Windows users)

• Pentium 800 MHz or later processor
• Sound card and good speakers or headphones
• 512 MB RAM
• 15 MB disk space
