Using the bin

The small kitchen container is for your food scraps, which can then be emptied into the Bio-Bin outside. If you wish, to avoid soiling the inside of your bin, you can use newspaper or double paper bags, which can be purchased in several Gatineau grocery and hardware stores, along with smaller paper bags for the kitchen containers. Plastic bags (ordinary, biodegradable or compostable) are not permitted, and if they are used, the bin will not be emptied. You can also try some origami and make your own bags.

Bins may be stored outdoors in side yards or backyards, as long as they are at least one metre from the neighbour's property.  On collection day, place the Bio-Bin beside the recycling and garbage bins, next to the street or sidewalk, with the wheels facing the house.
