You have until December 31 of the previous year to renew your pet's licence for the current year.
An administrative fee of $ 20 will be added to the cost of each license sold after March 31 of each year. These costs are not applicable to newly acquired animals (maximum three months), and only upon proof of purchase.
Your pet and city living
The municipal by-law allows a maximum of four pets, all types combined, per household.
If you comply with this by-law, you will avoid the penalties. Otherwise, you will receive a fine that ranges from $100 to $1,000, in addition to the administrative fees. Consult the by-law 183-2005 (in French only) for more information.
Do your cat or dog has their license?
Owners are responsible for registering each of their animals by getting them licences, which are valid from January 1 to December 31 of that year. One of the benefits of registering your pet is that it will be easier to find in case it gets lost. Each licence costs $40. However, if you can prove that your pet has been spayed/neutered, you get a $10 discount off this price.
