The SSIG includes approximately 300 employees. Its administrative offices are located in fire stations 4 and 5.

Operations officer (lieutenant) Officier I or equivalent course
Superior officer Officier I and Officier II or equivalent courses
Inspector AEC (fire safety - TPI), DEC (fire safety – prevention option), certificate in fire prevention, or DEP (fire prevention) courses and a course on identifying the causes and circumstances of fires.
Fire prevention officer AEC (fire prevention - TPI), DEC (fire safety – prevention option), certificate in fire prevention, or DEP (fire prevention).

DEP: Diplôme d'études professionnelles
AEC: Attestation d'études collégiales
TPI: Technique de prévention incendie
DEC: Diplôme d'études collégiales

Eligibility requirements for admission to the firefighter school

  • High school diploma (DES)
  • Math 436 or the equivalent
  • Medical assessment
  • Fitness assessment
  • Written test
The integrated training for fire safety is spread out over three years. The DEP (fire safety intervention) from an institution recognized by the ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport represents the first two sessions in a DEC (fire safety).
