Urban renewal and repairs to municipal services on Laval, Kent and Aubry

Revitalizing the downtown

As part of the revitalization of its downtown, Gatineau will do some urban renewal and repairs to municipal services on Laval, Kent and Aubry.

Among other things, this project will involve:

  • building a public square on rue Laval between Laurier and Hôtel-de-Ville that will include place Kent-Aubry;
  • making rue Laval conducive to pedestrians, as a continuation of Kent and Aubry;
  • creating a link to the Ottawa Rivers and to the new multifunctional Zibi development;
  • modifying the intersection of Laval and promenade du Portage;
  • introducing distinctive features to identify the sector (contemporary light standards, signs, and urban furniture); and
  • burying the aerial public utilities (Hydro-Québec, Bell, Vidéotron, etc.).

The project, which is a three-stage process, will begin on August 8, 2016 and continue until 2019.

Local businesses will remain open and accessible while the work is underway.

Public meetings

Ville de Gatineau is working closely with Vision Centre-Ville and local businesses and residents in an effort to minimize the impact.

On June 21, 2016, an information meeting gave 21 residents, businesses and agency representatives the opportunity to find out more about the project.
