Edroesfero – Canada 02

Artist: Darlan Manoel Rosa

A gift from Brazil to Ville de Gatineau. Work unveiled on November 19, 2010 in the presence of His Excellency Paulo Cordeiro de Andrade Pinto, Ambassador of Brazil, and Mr. Marc Bureau, Mayor of Gatineau. The work is representative of the artist's style, and harmoniously fits into the modern architecture of Maison du citoyen.

Soccer is Brazil's national sport. More than mere recreation, for the people of Brazil it has become an experience of completeness and satisfaction. The spherical form chosen by the artist provides a glimpse of colourful lights through the openings, and is suggestive of a favourite ball. Darlan Rosa invites the spectator to look again. Intimately linked to the national sport of Brazilians and to what it means, the work, like the sport, blends strength and fragility, reflection, contemplation and play.
