A number of different kinds of notifications are offered to you – providing swift access to urgent information of immediate interest to you – by Ville de Gatineau, wherever you may be and at no cost to you*.

Select the type of information you would like to receive:

Emergency situations, boil water advisory, spring freshet advisory, winter overnight on-street parking ban, and other important notices

When you sign up for the notification system, you can select:

  • the topics about which you would like to receive notifications:
    • Important notices, alerts and emergencies (emergency situations, boil water advisories, watering bans, etc.);
    • Spring freshet information;
    • Winter overnight parking (notices and lifting of parking bans, etc.).
  • the manner in which you would like to be notified (e.g. by e-mail, phone or text message (SMS))*.

First use

The system may take a few seconds to execute an action.

The first time you use the notification system, you must create a new user. This is how you do that:

  1. At the home page, click on New user. The Get password window will open.
  2. Enter the phone number (e.g. 8195551234) in the Phone number to reach you field. Your phone number will be your username.
  3. Select the manner in which you would like to receive your password. If you select the By phone option, the system will call you and dictate your password. If you select the By SMS option, the system will send you your password by text message (SMS)*.
  4. Enter the code on the screen. If you cannot read the code on the screen, click on the Show another code link for a new one.
  5. Check the I accept to receive communications from Ville de Gatineau. You can modify or cancel your subscription at any time box.
  6. Click on Get password. The system will then send you your password.
  7. Access your file using your username (your phone number) and the password you received.

Access to your file

To access your file, you must identify yourself by your username and password. This is how you do that:

  1. At the home page, enter your phone number (e.g. 8195551234) in the Username field and your password in the Password field.

  2. Click on Connection;

    What to do if you get the message "Invalid login"
  3. Update your personal information:
    1. Select whether your file is active or not by checking or clearing the Active box. Your file must be active for you to receive notifications.
    2. In the LastName field, enter your last name.
    3. In the Firstname field, enter your first name.
    4. In the Language field, enter and select your preferred language. That is the language in which notifications will be sent to you.
    5. In the Province field, enter and select your province.
    6. In the City field, enter and select your city.
    7. In the Street field, enter and select your street (e.g. Laurier for 25 rue Laurier).
    8. In the Civic number field, enter the number of your building (e.g. 25 for 25 rue Laurier).
    9. In the Apt./Suite field, enter your apartment or office number.
    10. In the Postal code field, enter your postal code.
    11. In the Contact information field, click on the Add button to add your contact information. This is the information that will be used to send you the notifications you indicated that you wanted to receive:
      1. Select whether the coordinates are active or inactive by checking or clearing the Active box. Your contact information must be active for you to receive notifications.
      2. In the Type field, select the type of contact information you would like to add: e-mail, phone or SMS.

      3. In the Contact Info field, enter the e-mail address or the telephone number.
      4. Click on the Confirm button. Your contact information will be registered.
    12. Check the types of notifications you would like to receive:
      • Important notices, alerts and emergencies: you will receive boil water advisories, water supply interruptions when a large number of dwellings are affected, and information about any municipal emergency;
      • Spring flood: you will receive information about spring flooding; and
      • Winter overnight parking: you will receive a notification when the winter parking ban is imposed or lifted.
    13. Click on the Confirm button. Your personal information will be registered.

Forgotten password

If you have forgotten your password, you will have to recover it. This is how you do that:

  1. At the home page, click on the Forgot password? link. The Recover password window will open.
  2. Enter your phone number (e.g. 8195551234) in the Phone number to reach you field. Your phone number will be your username.
  3. Select the manner in which you would like to receive your password. If you select the By phone option, the system will call you and dictate your password. If you select the By SMS option, the system will send you your password by text message (SMS)*.
  4. Enter the code on the screen. If you cannot read the code on the screen, click on the Show another code link for a new one.
  5. Check the I accept to receive communications from Ville de Gatineau. You can modify or cancel your subscription at any time box.
  6. Click on the Get password button. The system will then send you your password.
  7. Access your file using your username and the password you received.

Types of contact information

E-mail

When you select this type of contact information, notifications will be e-mailed to the address you entered.

Telephone

When you select this type of contact information, notifications will be called in to the phone number you entered.

SMS

When you select this type of contact information, notifications will be texted (SMS)* to the phone number you entered.

What to do if you don't receive notifications

If you do not receive notifications, make sure that the contact information in your file is valid and active, and that your file is active.

Additional information about accessing your file

For e-mail notifications, make sure that they do not automatically go to the unwanted mail/spam file by authorizing and adding notifications.gatineau@somum.com to your contact list.

What are the topics of the notifications you may receive?

Here are some examples of notifications to receive if you are in the area affected by certain events:

  • Important notices, alerts and emergencies:
    Current boil advisories, temporary water shut-off advisories, no water use advisories, testing of fire hydrants, etc.
  • Spring flooding:
    Water level monitoring, gradual rise in water levels, opening of a disaster centre, etc.
  • On-street parking during winter months:
    Winter parking ban, winter parking ban lifting, etc.

What to do if you get the message "Invalid login"

Please wait 24 hours and try again using a computer with the most recent version of one of the following web browsers: Chrome (Google), Firefox (Mozilla), Safari (Apple) or Edge (Microsoft).

It also may be a problem with cached or temporary data.

You can try to resolve this problem by deleting the cached and temporary data. You can do this from your web browser settings. You should follow the instructions specific to your browser version and operating system.

If the problem persists, try using another web browser.

Reminders and alerts about residual materials collection services

The DTRITUS app enables you to, among other things, receive reminders and notifications about residual materials collections, through either the mobile app or the Web version.

The above instructions were prepared for devices using the Apple iOS operating system. The terminology and steps may vary depending on the model and manufacturer.

Download the mobile app and activate the notifications

  1. download the Dtritus (Ville de Gatineau) app through the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android);
  2. enter your address; and
  3. authorize notifications.

 

 

Every week, at the scheduled time, you will receive reminders of the week's collections for your address. Signing up for those reminders also guarantees that you will receive notifications about the status of the collections, specifically in case of delays or significant changes.

     

The DTRITUS mobile app comes with other handy features as well:

  • obtain a personalized collection calendar;
  • find out how to dispose of a particular item; and
  • book a collection for your repurposable bulky items (recyclable or reusable).

Activating the notifications once the mobile app has already been installed

If you already use the DTRITUS app but have not yet activated the notifications, you can activate them as follows:

  1. open the app and click on More;
  2. click on Notifications; and
  3. make sure the Yes button is activated (green), and select the time and day when you would like to receive your collection reminders.

If you see the following message: “Notifications don't seem to be enabled”:

  1. open Settings;
  2. click on Notifications;
  3. select Dtritus (Ville de Gatineau);
  4. make sure the Authorize notifications button is green; and
  5. select the type of notification and banner you would like to receive.

Activating notifications without downloading the app

To sign up for DTRITUS notifications without downloading the mobile app:

  1. click here to open the Web version;
  2. enter your address;
  3. click on Search;
  4. when your collection calendar appears, click on Get a reminder!;
  5. select the reminder you would like to receive (you can receive more than one reminder, for instance by email and by phone call).

    If you would like to receive a weekly reminder of the week's collections for your address, select Email or Phone call. In addition to a weekly reminder, you will receive a communication in case of a delay or change in your collections.

    If you are not interested in receiving weekly reminders, but would like to be informed about a delay or change in your collections, click on Service alerts only. This option is only available by email.

If you select Email, enter your email address and the time and day when you would like to receive your collection reminders.

If you select Phone call, enter your telephone number and the time and day when you would like to receive your collection reminders. You can use a cell phone or a landline number.

If you select Service alerts only, enter your email address.

If you are not receiving notifications, make sure the coordinates you entered are valid and active, and that your file is active. For email notifications, make sure they do not automatically go to your spam mail.

The Web version of DTRITUS comes with other handy features as well:

  • obtain a personalized collection calendar;
  • find out how to dispose of a particular item; and
  • book a collection for your repurposable bulky items (recyclable or reusable).

* Although text message (SMS) notifications are provided for free by Ville de Gatineau, your telecommunications service provider may charge a fee.
