As of September 16, 2025, it is now mandatory for all businesses (institutions, retail establishments, and industrial facilities) to provide collection services for recyclable and compostable materials (Regulations concerning waste management). More specifically, the regulations require:

No, if your business is served by Ville de Gatineau for the collection of recyclable and compostable materials, you do not need to provide us with proof.
However, if your business is only served for one type of collection (recycling OR composting), you'll need to provide proof for the other type of collection. For example, if your business only has compostable waste collection through Ville de Gatineau, you'll need to provide proof that your recyclable materials are collected by a private contractor.
If you own the building, you can use the following form to send us your proof of collection. If you rent space in the building and are responsible for managing your own collection contracts, you must send a copy of your collection contract to your landlord, who is responsible for sending us proof for all businesses in the building.
The regulations have been in effect since September 16, 2025. However, a grace period of a few months will be granted to businesses that demonstrate good faith in their efforts to comply, in order to:
