Why expand your business into Gatineau?

Gatineau is a young and growing city. It offers a wide range of benefits for businesses, and countless business opportunities.

Gatineau's economic development initiatives

Conditions conducive to economic development

Gatineau plays an active role in economic development based on the following mission:

“In the interest of a sustainable and equitable economy, and in consultation with Gatineau's economic and political partners, and those of the surrounding municipalities, lead the way by promoting the city's attributes, creating conditions favourable to economic development, and introducing initiatives and measures to support businesses.”

Gatineau's municipal council has adopted a Social economy policy and an action plan for 2021-2025.

Fonds régions et ruralité

Under the Fonds régions et ruralité (FRR) established on April 1, 2020, Gatineau and Quebec's ministère des Affaires municipales et de l'Habitation signed an agreement on Volet 2 – Soutien à la compétence de développement local et régional des MRC. Under the agreement, this phase will support Gatineau's local and regional development efforts, under its management: Gatineau will set the priorities for intervention and introduce policies on local assistance. The FRR replaces the Fonds de développement des territoires (FDT) as of March 31, 2020.

A commission dedicated to economic strategies

Ville de Gatineau is working with a commission that has a strategic role in creating conditions that are conducive to economic development. The Commission de développement économique provides advice and recommendations to the Municipal Council on the strategies that will best serve the city's economic growth, and on how to respond to emerging opportunities and challenges.
