The federal legislation on legalizing cannabis comes into effect on October 17, 2018
Gatineau has decided to apply the measures in the Cannabis Regulation Act without any additional restrictions. Thus, the use of cannabis will be regulated in accordance with the provisions in that Act. Several factors were weighed, including social acceptability, social equity and the impact on vulnerable clients.
On July 3, 2018, Gatineau Municipal Council decided to apply the measures in the Cannabis Regulation Act, which amends Quebec's Tobacco Control Act.
For the detailed list of restrictions on smoking or vaping cannabis consult the list of prohibited locations.
Consequently, smoking or vaping cannabis will be prohibited wherever smoking tobacco is prohibited, and in other specified locations, including the grounds of health care and social service facilities, and the grounds of colleges and universities.
It should be noted that the projected restrictions on the use of cannabis under the Cannabis Regulation Act also apply to therapeutic cannabis.
Gatineau is the fourth largest city in the province of Quebec with close to 285,000 inhabitants.
