The Hull and Aéroparc ecocentres are facilities where residents can bring various types of materials to be recycled or reused. Access is generally free for Gatineau residents, except for bulky waste (mattresses, sofas, etc.) and construction debris and branches exceeding a certain size limit. Regular trash is not accepted there.
The waste transfer centre is used to collect materials–including compost and waste collected daily in Gatineau–and transport them to treatment or disposal sites. There is a fee for access

The fees charged by ecocentres are based on a minimum volume of 1 m3 per visit. Therefore, any visit subject to a fee will be billed based on a minimum volume of 1 m3, even if the amount of material brought in is less than that.
Visits to the ecocentre are free and unlimited for Gatineau residents, except for bulky items, construction debris, and branches.
An adult residing in a dwelling located within the territory of Ville de Gatineau is considered a resident.
Notwithstanding the preceding, a tenant bringing construction residues from their dwelling will be considered a small business user.
Proof of residence must be presented to the attendant at the entrance to the ecocentre.

Owners/managers of multi-unit residential buildings are entitled to bring 12 cans of residential-grade paint and 12 other items of household hazardous waste to recycling centers free of charge per visit. They may also bring 6 m3 of bulky waste free of charge per year. Beyond this limit, the standard fees apply.
A business (legal person) established within the territory of Ville de Gatineau that collects or processes residual materials or operates garbage collection and/or compactor trucks.
Schools are also considered large businesses.

Accepted textiles include clothing, shoes (tied in pairs), fashion accessories, and household linens. Textiles must be clean, dry, and free of unpleasant odors.
The cost is $10 plus tax.
Asbestos must be placed in sealed plastic bags. You must unload it yourself at the designated location.
Yes, the limit is 2 pallets (2 m3) per visit.

Household hazardous waste consists of toxic, explosive, flammable, or corrosive substances or objects. All containers, whether empty or not, displaying one or more of these pictograms are accepted at the ecocentres:
Thanks to the implementation of software to track visits to ecocentres in January 2024, the number of visits per address could be analyzed. An excessive number of visits was observed by certain individuals for the disposal of branches or construction debris. This leads to increased operating costs for the ecocentres, which are funded by all residents through their waste management tax. Consequently, the new fee structure implemented in 2026 aims to better regulate material drop-offs and ensure fairness among users. Very few residents will be affected by this fee structure.
The rates reflect the actual cost incurred by Ville de Gatineau, including transportation and waste management (recycling or landfilling, depending on the type of waste).
The amount of free m3 applies from January through December of each year. In 2026, residents will be entitled to 12 m3 of free tree branches and 12 m3 of free construction debris.
To ensure fairness for all residents, standard benchmarks will be established and applied to measure the volume of materials. For example, a pickup truck bed filled to a height of 1 foot is equivalent to 1 cubic meter.
Materials must be sorted by category before arriving at the ecocentre (for example, stack the wood on the left side of the trailer and the drywall on the right side). This helps reduce unloading time at the site, since each type of material has its own container, as the staff will explain to you when you arrive.
Proper sorting of materials helps reduce costs and increase the recycling rate.
For safety reasons, pedestrians are not permitted at the ecocentre. Ecocentres are designed to accommodate vehicles. There is no designated area to separate pedestrians from moving vehicles and ensure their safe movement on the site.
Cyclists, for their part, are allowed on the site.
