Honouring excellence among Gatineau residents!

The Ordre de Gatineau is the highest honour awarded by Gatineau to an individual for that person's achievements through his or her work, career and involvement.

Since 2005, Gatineau has been recognizing the exceptional contribution made by those of our residents whose noteworthy achievements have been driven by their desire to help our community.

At a ceremony in their honour, the recipients are granted the title of Grande Citoyenne or Grand Citoyen de Gatineau, and receive a medal engraved with the seal of the Ordre de Gatineau and a gold pin from the Mayor of Gatineau.

Selection criteria

The individual in question must meet three selection criteria:

  • an exceptional contribution to that individual's discipline, profession or field (for example through innovative or landmark achievements, a major success, a leading-edge approach or a significant feat)
  • an outstanding contribution or commitment by the individual to life in the Gatineau community and the region (for example through volunteer work, philanthropy or mentoring); and
  • the impact of that individual's work or achievement must extend beyond Gatineau, thereby enhancing the city's reputation beyond the region (for example through representation, influence, reputation, participation, development or  identification).
