Robotized collection

Your bins are now emptied by a truck equipped with a robotic arm.

To enable the truck to collect your bins properly, make sure you follow the instructions below:

  • The wheels are facing your house.
  • Leave a space of 60 cm (24 in.) on each side of the bins.
  • There must be no obstacles in front of the bins (e.g.: a car).
  • The lid must be completely closed.
  • No material may overflow the bin or be placed on the lid.
  • Anti-rodent latch must be up.
  • Place your bins in your driveway or on your property, not in the street or on the sidewalk.
  • Use only compliant bins (see below).

Accepted collection methods

Ville de Gatineau wheeled bins (brown, blue and grey bins)

80 to 360 litre European model wheeled bins identified by a “V” (for “vert”) for yard waste (any colour other than blue)

Ville de Gatineau labels for overflow garbage bags

These bags must be placed next to the street along with the grey bin, to be collected at the same time as your grey bin.

Refused collection methods

Trash cans

Bagged leaves

American model wheeled bins

Boxes

Branches and other excess trash next to the bins

Recycling bags

Instructions for winter collection

Your bins will only be emptied if they are accessible and properly placed. The following are the additional instructions for winter collection:

  • Leave a 60 cm clearance on either side of each bin so the robotic arm can reach it. Do not leave bins too close to a snow bank, car or obstacle.
  • Clear the snow off your bins and remove any snow in front of them, so the robotic arm can grab it.
  • Place bins on your driveway, as close as possible to the street, but not on the snow bank or on the sidewalk, but without protruding in front of the snow bank. See specific examples below.
  • If possible, put your bins out on collection days, in the morning before 7 a.m. so as not to interfere with overnight snow clearing operations.
  • Remove the snow from your overflow trash bags or bulky items so they are visible and accessible for collection.

Where do I place my bins in winter?
