If you become a victim of road rage:

  • Remain calm.
  • Try to keep a safe distance between you and the aggressive driver.
  • Do not stare at the driver.
  • Do not engage in the driver's game, and avoid sending any signals that could be taken as a challenge (gestures or other).
  • Do not honk the horn to try to get the driver's attention.
  • If you have a hands-free cell phone, immediately call 9-1-1, and give the Service de police as much information as you can (e.g.: the other car's licence plate province and number, a description of the driver, the vehicle make and model, etc.).
  • If the driver is tailgating you, safely pull over into the right-hand lane or onto the shoulder so that he/she can pass you and get off your tail.
  • Avoid driving straight home to ensure that the driver does not find out where you live. Instead, drive to a police station or a busy area.
  • Whatever happens, remain in your vehicle, lock your doors, do not open your window, and try not to confront the driver: focus on your driving.

In case of emergency, call 9-1-1
