The by-law applies to every building located within Gatineau, regardless of the year it was built or which by-law applied before this one came into force, unless otherwise specified.

The by-law provides for the systematic incorporation of Quebec's Safety Code, Chapter VIII Building and the National Fire Code of Canada 2010 (amended) into the by-law as though they were a part of it, with each part and section of the Codes corresponding to a part and section of the by-law, subject to certain modifications.

The Quebec Safety Code and the National Fire Code of Canada 2010 are available in bookstores, and you can get them through the Web site at www.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca, or at 1200 Montreal Road, Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 0R6.
