To accelerate processing of your application when purchasing in person, you can download, print and fill out the Application for a general winter overnight parking permit. Your permit is only valid if it is hanging from your rearview mirror in your car. Tickets will not be cancelled on the grounds that a permit was not received.

A winter overnight parking permit allows you to park on the street overnight in accordance with posted signs anywhere in Gatineau, except for specifically identified streets*. Permits can be transferred between cars.

Specific winter overnight parking permit

Specific winter overnight parking permits can be purchased at the Section du stationnement office only, from November 1, 2023 to the end of winter.

  • The Section du stationnement office is at 775 boulevard de la Carrière.

When is the general or specific winter overnight parking permit valid?

General or specific winter overnight parking permits are valid from December 1 to April 1.

The Service des travaux publics can postpone the start date if weather conditions so warrant. For anyone who does not have a permit, on-street parking is prohibited effective 24 hours after the official start date.

The Service des travaux publics can also move up the April 1 end date if weather conditions so warrant.

Ways to receive notification of winter parking bans

  • General winter overnight parking permit holders should sign up for the notification system to receive email or text message notifications when parking bans are issued or lifted.
  • Notifications are also posted on the municipal website when parking bans are issued or lifted, as well as on our official X feed and at 311. They are issued no later than 3 p.m. on the day they come into effect.

IMPORTANT: Even if you are signed up for the text message or email parking ban notifications, you are responsible for checking daily whether a parking ban is in effect (at gatineau.ca/stationnementhivernal, Gatineau social media or 311).

Watch for on-street parking bans, as restrictions apply.

An on-street parking ban that applies to everyone may be issued when Environment Canada forecasts an accumulation of at least 5 centimetres of snow in the Gatineau area.

When an on-street parking ban is in effect, nobody* is allowed to park on the street Mondays to Fridays from midnight to 6 a.m. or Saturdays and Sundays from 3 to 6 a.m.
