Recognizing that crime victims and their families deserve to be treated with courtesy, compassion, respect and dignity, the Canadian Charter of Victims Bill of Rights aims to ensure that their rights are taken into consideration throughout the criminal justice system.

It provides crime victims with the right to information and protection, as well as the right of participation and the right to seek restitution.
