Gatineau, October 28, 2013. – The Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau (SPVG) confirms that 62 year-old Alain Blais will appear today before the Court of Quebec to face a charge of second-degree murder. The victim, a 41 year-old Gatineau resident, was found dead late on Saturday, October 26 near her home at 49 rue Montpetit, Gatineau. At the family's request, the SPVG will not reveil the victim's identity.

SPVG police first received some vague information late in the day on Friday that there was an individual in Ottawa claiming to have done something "irreparable". Based on the information received by the source, who had contacted the SPVG, police did some investigating, but did not come up with anything definite. They followed up with witnesses, namely the presumed victim's family, before referring the case to the Division des enquêtes criminelles.

The following night, that is to say Saturday, October 26, a man contacted the Ottawa Police Service (OPS). Police officers were dispatched to meet with the individual, whom they then arrested based on the information they obtained. This information, together with the investigation, led to the discovery of the victim's body, which had been hidden outside the home at 49 rue Montpetit, in the Hull sector.

An autopsy will be conducted today at the Laboratoire des sciences judiciaires et de médecine légale de Montréal.

Alain Blais is known to other police services, but not well known to the SPVG. The victim was known to the SPVG. Both of them lived at 49 rue Montpetit, apartment 1, in Gatineau.

The SPVG would like to mention the excellent cooperation received from the OPS team, and the quality of the information obtained, which led to the discovery of the body.
