GATINEAU ALLOCATES A TOTAL OF $733,662 UNDER THE FIRST TRANCHE OF CONTRIBUTIONS TO SPORTS, RECREATION AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS IN 2011

Gatineau, February 1, 2011. – Gatineau has announced the first tranche of annual contributions that it plans to allocate to sports, recreation and community organizations within its territory. The recipients will share a total of $733,662, including $399,405 under the grants program for sports and community organizations, and $334,257 under the Cadre de soutien programs.

"This year once again, 116 sports, recreation and community organizations will receive help from Gatineau as a sign of its continuing commitment to these organizations and their many different activities, and its wish to join as a partner in different developmental projects," indicated Gatineau Mayor Marc Bureau.

Gatineau's Service des loisirs, des sports et du développement des communautés is in the midst of harmonizing with the orientations and programs in the support framework for these organizations, "This harmonization exercise began in January 2008, and will continue until 2012. It is directly in line with the need to adopt a more equitable approach with every organization that deals with Gatineau in developing the offer of recreational, sports and outdoor activities," pointed out Joseph De Sylva, Chair of the Commission des loisirs, des sports et de la vie communautaire and Municipal Councillor for the Versant district.
