UPDATE: STATUS OF WORK ON RUE MONTCALM

Gatineau, July 26, 2011. – Ville de Gatineau would like residents to know that the infrastructure and revitalization work that started on April 26 on rue Montcalm between Papineau and Wright is going well.

The work on rue Montcalm is divided into two stages:
• stage 1: repairs to municipal utilities and pavements
• stage 2: urban design, sidewalks and lighting

The work under stage 1 began on April 26 and will be completed by the end of August 2011. The work under stage 2 should begin in early September and be completed by the late fall of 2011. It should be noted that the timeframe for the work on the municipal roads may be revised depending on the weather while the work is underway.

Status of the Work

The work on rue Papineau was completed on July 22. Rue Papineau is now open to traffic. Consequently, traffic on rue Montcalm between boulevard Saint-Joseph and rue Papineau is back to normal.

Rue Montcalm is now open to local traffic between rue Papineau and rue Gagnon, and between rue Sainte-Bernadette and rue Wellington, which means that businesses and residences located at numbers 166 to 140 and 78 to 50 are now fully accessible.

Rue Montcalm between rue Papineau and rue Wellington remains closed to through traffic, and the detours in place remain in effect. Cars, trucks and Société de transport de l'Outaouais buses must all take a detour through the adjacent streets.

Gatineau thanks residents for their usual collaboration.
