EVERYBODY TO THE STARTING LINE FOR THE GATINEAU LOPPET!

Gatineau, January 10, 2012. – Gatineau is proud to team up with the 34th edition of the Gatineau Loppet in welcoming thousands of skiers from around the world who will be taking part in the biggest cross-country ski event in Canada, from February 17 to 19.

The Gatineau Loppet is an international cross-country ski event that uses the Gatineau Park trails, and the École secondaire Mont-Bleu as the starting point. There are several activities on the roster, including the Bistro l'Après-Ski and the Ski Show, not to mention the traditional giant ski competition!

As a member of the Worldloppet League, the Gatineau Loppet is part of a worldwide circuit of 15 cross-country ski events. The loppets (a Scandinavian term for a ski marathon) gives beginner skiers the chance to ski alongside the world's elite in 5, 10, 16, 31 km and 51 km courses! Children also get to test themselves on the made-to-measure 2 km Mini Sport Échange Outaouais!

"Gatineau is proud to once again host the Gatineau Loppet. The cross-country skiers from every part of Quebec, Canada and more than 20 countries give Gatineau the chance to shine on the international sports scene while at the same time giving skiers in Gatineau and its surroundings a unique experience!" declared Gatineau Mayor Marc Bureau.

Gatineau would like to highlight the commitment of the hundreds of volunteers who help the Gatineau Loppet grow year after year.

Come and cheer on the thousands of skiers, and take this opportunity to get outdoors with the family!
