Threats Against Police Officers: Suspect Arrested in Ottawa

Gatineau, May 14, 2020. – The Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau (SPVG), with the assistance of the Ottawa Police Service (OPS), arrested a 70-year-old Ottawa resident for uttering death threats against police officers.


Quick facts

On May 12, shortly after 10 p.m., the SPVG received threats through it's call center from an individual who stated that he wanted to shoot police officers and their vehicle if the COVID-19-related road checks continued between Ottawa and Gatineau.
OPS officers collaborated in the investigation and in the operation to arrest the suspect in Ottawa. He was arrested in the late evening of Wednesday, May 13.
The suspect was transported to Gatineau to meet with investigators. He was detained and will appear in court on Thursday, May 14, 2020 to face a charge of uttering a death threat.
The SPVG wishes to make it clear that threats are not tolerated against anyone, including against its officers. The SPVG is appealing to residents for their cooperation and patience to help maintain a good social climate during the pandemic.
