Arrest for possession of child pornography
Gatineau, July 15, 2020. – On July 3, the Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau (SPVG) arrested Charles Trépanier, 62, for possession of child pornography.
At a glance :
On July 3, police received a call from an employee at a store in the Buckingham sector.
The cashier had found a cell phone that had been left behind. In an effort to identify its owner, the employee opened it and found child pornography in the form of photos and videos in the phone.
A credit card attached to the phone helped identify its owner, and police were able to confirm the information based on the surveillance cameras in the store.
The individual in question is Charles Trépanier, 62, a resident of the Buckingham sector. That individual is known to the SPVG.
Out of concern for the safety of children, police did an emergency search of Mr. Trépanier's home. No warrant was required.
Charles Trépanier is facing charges of possession of and accessing child pornography. He will remain in custody throughout the legal proceedings.
“The SPVG commends the employee for immediately contacting the police following the discovery. We all have a part to play in prevention and ensuring the safety of the members of our community,” indicated SPVG spokesperson Officer Andrée East.
