Murder of Valérie Leblanc: Ten Years Ago Today

Gatineau, August 23, 2021. – Ten years ago today, Valérie Leblanc's body was found in the woods west of the Cégep de l'Outaouais in the Hull Sector. Since then, the Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau (SPVG) has been unrelenting in its search for the person(s) responsible for this heinous crime which shocked the entire Gatineau community.

After ten years of active investigation, SPVG wants to provide an update on the situation and renew the search for information among residents.

Command post

In the hope that new information will help move the investigation along and solve this crime, the SPVG command post will be set up today in the parking of the Cabane en bois rond (331 de la Cité-des-Jeunes Blvd) between 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Residents are invited to come and meet with SPVG investigators if they have any information related to Valérie Leblanc's homicide.
It is important to remember that every piece of information, as insignificant as it may seem, could help the investigation and provide new leads. Residents are asked to try to remember anything they can.
You can rest assured that every piece of information counts. Never assume that it has already been shared with the police.
Residents who are unable to get to the command post can call in their information to 819-243-4636, option 1, or fill out a form at police.gatineau.ca (see related links below). All calls and submissions will be kept in strictest confidence.
A reward of up to $10,000 is once again being offered by Jeunesse au soleil to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this murder.

Composite drawing of a key witness

The composite drawing released shortly after Valérie Leblanc's homicide is still the one to go by. This is what a key witness to the crime looked like 10 years ago.
– SPVG is continuing to try to find the man, who has yet to be identified.
The composite drawing can be found at police.gatineau.ca. There are also posters at the different SPVG points of service, with the QR code.
– The QR code is another way for residents to locate the composite drawing at police.gatineau.ca.

Important

The murder of Valérie Leblanc remains a priority case for SPVG, and is still active. To date:
– SPVG has received and processed close to 2200 tips from the public; and
– SPVG investigators have met with several hundreds of persons in an effort to solve this crime.
