Gatineau, May 29, 2012. – Gatineau invites all residents to take part in Gatineau Week 2012, a celebration that is part of Quebec's Semaine de la municipalité, a province-wide event.

The activities that have been organized will include many fun opportunities for Gatineau residents to find out more about some of the services offered by their municipality.

The theme for this very special week is "your elected officials at your service". We will also be celebrating Gatineau's tenth anniversary. We may be young, but we've come a long way.

"I encourage all Gatineau residents to make the most of Gatineau Week, and to find out about the many services their city offers, as well as to meet the municipal elected officials who will be on hand at the different activity sites. Gatineau Week is the perfect opportunity to develop stronger ties within the Gatineau community," pointed out Gatineau Mayor Marc Bureau.

From June 2 to 10, 2012, come and have a good time by taking part in the following activities:

The Rendez-vous des familles

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., come and join in the fun at parc du Lac-Leamy (Hull sector) on Saturday, June 2, and on the Sunday, June 3 at parc des Cèdres (Aylmer sector) and place de la Cité (Gatineau sector). For the very first time, the Rendez-vous des familles will run over into a second weekend, as école secondaire Hormisdas-Gamelin welcomes families on Saturday, June 9.

There will be shows and entertainment for every taste all day at all four locations. As well, municipal staff will be on hand to tell you all about the many services offered by Gatineau in connection with the environment, the Bureau de l'ombudsman, the library network and the Service de police.

Other Activities Over the June 2 and 3 Weekend

The June 2 and 3 weekend will also feature the Fête des voisins, an event celebrated in several countries, and the garage sale day. Organize your own party, and invite your neighbours, or hold a garage sale so that your old things can get reused.

You can also take part in the traditional visit to the municipal fire halls, where you can see Gatineau's firefighters at work, or take one of the guided tours at the Aylmer sector water filtration plant. And of course, there is the Symmes Inn Museum, which will open its doors for the summer season on the Sunday.

Thursday, June 7

During the week, try to make it to the history and heritage discovery tour of Vieux-Hull, which will start in front of Maison du citoyen in the evening.

June 9 and 10 Weekend

The Gatineau Week activities will wrap up nicely on the weekend of June 9 and 10, with the giant used book sale, the Gatineau 360° mystery event, to which 800 youth between 12 and 17 years of age will have earned a pass, and the Des chutes en art heritage tour!

Check out the full program in the May 30 edition of La Revue and in the May 31 issue of Le Droit, or visit www.gatineau.ca/semainegatineau.
