Gatineau, December 8, 2014. – From January 30 to February 16, 2015, the popular Snowflake Kingdom will be back with us, as part of Winterlude, to transform Jacques-Cartier park into the biggest winter playground in North America!

"Gatineau and Heritage Canada are pleased to be working together on building the Snowflake Kingdom. Every year, thousands of Gatineau families and tourists from around the world converge on the Jacques-Cartier park to celebrate winter. This huge gathering has become an unmissable event in Gatineau, and a source of pride. It is important to highlight the efforts of Gatineau employees, which make it possible to create this tremendous site and the enormous slides," indicated Deputy Mayor of Gatineau and Municipal Councillor, Gilles Carpentier.

Although the snow cannons that will mark the start of the process of manufacturing the 30,000 cubic metres of powder required to build the playground structures will only be activated in the night of December 27 to 28, you can already check out the program highlights.

In 2015, the Snowflake Kingdom will be marking the Year of Sport, and we are organizing initiations to kicksledding, downhill skiing, ringuette and snow soccer!

The larger than life slides will be back. Peals of laughter and plenty of thrills are guaranteed for the whole family on the Chinook, Iceberg, Glacier and Bout de chou slides. The Snowflake Kingdom has more than twenty runs for all tastes.

Boogie to the rhythm of the shows on the Snowflake Stage. The program includes interactive shows, entertaining songs, clowns, dance performances and, of course, the return of the Ice Hog Boogie Show!

Admire the magnificent snow sculptures under the lights at night! Professional sculptors from different parts of Canada will transform giant blocks of snow into ephemeral works of art. Don't miss the lighting of the sculptures on the Friday and Saturday nights!

Test yourself with the XTREME Zone challenges New this year, the mini zip line has been added to the giant zip line, to the pedal go-karts in the snow, and to the giant maze. The XTREME Zone will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Saturdays and Sundays, and on Monday, February 16 for Family Day. (Fee per activity ranging from $1 to $5.)

For the 12 to 17 year-old set, there will be the BLIZZARD evening. On Saturday, February 7, from 8 to 10 p.m., slide, dance at the Refuge, and then start all over again! An epic night complete with a DJ, entertainment, attendance prizes and VIP treatment for 12 to 17 year-olds. This activity is presented by the Commission jeunesse de Gatineau and Scène 1425.
Create magical moments with the Ice Hogs. The famous Ice Hog family, including Mama, Papa and twins Noumi and Nouma, will move into their second home at the Snowflake Kingdom for the three weeks of the event. Plenty of free hugs!

The Snowflake Kingdom is made possible by a joint effort between Gatineau and Canadian Heritage. It will be open Mondays and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will be closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Free admission and guaranteed fun!
