GATINEAU PRESENTS A GLOBAL SETTLEMENT FRAMEWORK TO ITS WHITE-COLLAR WORKERS
Gatineau, June 15, 2011. – Gatineau presented today a global settlement framework for renewing the collective agreement with its white-collar workers that had expired in December 2007.
"I invite the Syndicat des cols blancs de Gatineau to a bargaining blitz from June 27 to July 15, including days, nights and weekends, around the settlement framework presented today, which fits into our financial framework of 2.5% annually, with an additional 3% to cover pay equity and classification," indicated Gatineau Mayor Marc Bureau.
The proposed framework, which includes the pay equity and internal equity issues, is not only responsible and reasonable, but also to the advantage of white-collar workers. Gatineau's offer fits into the announced 2.5% annual financial framework, and preserves most of the current benefits enjoyed by white-collar workers. The Syndicat's proposal includes a set of requests that add up to a 9% increase.
"In the interest of fairness towards other municipal employees and out of consideration for taxpayers, we cannot agree to add to the fiscal burden because of exaggerated union demands," concluded Denis Tassé, municipal councillor for the Touraine district and the executive committee human resources spokesperson.
If no agreement is reached by August 31, Gatineau will reconsider its offer.
In the meantime, Gatineau officials are prepared to negotiate an agreement with the Syndicat des cols blancs that is to everyone's satisfaction and in line with the proposed framework.
