Gatineau, April 9, 2014. – Gatineau will resume the work on upgrading the water treatment plant in the Hull sector this coming Friday, April 11.

Just like last week, a boil water advisory will be in effect for the entire Hull sector as of 8:30 p.m. this Friday. All affected residents and institutions will have to boil their water for one minute before consuming it, until the boil water advisory is lifted.

While the work is underway, there may be a drop in pressure or a temporary interruption in the water supply. As a preventive measure, Gatineau recommends that affected residents keep a supply of water on hand.

Please note that the boil water advisory only concerns water that is to be consumed or used for brushing teeth. The tap water can safely be used as is for baths, showers, laundry and doing dishes.

The work involves replacing a flow meter for the treated water exiting the plant, the same as last week. The work will be done overnight from 8:30 p.m. Friday the 11th to Saturday the 12th.

Gatineau will lift the boil water advisory once the work has been completed and the test results confirm that the water is safe to consume. For these reasons, it is impossible to tell ahead of time when the advisory will be lifted.

Once the boil water advisory has been lifted, affected residents will have to:
• open all cold water taps and let the water run for one minute or until it is cold before using it (the same procedure applies to water fountains); and
• discard any ice that was made with tap water while the boil water advisory was in effect.
