GATINEAU'S COMMISSION JEUNESSE NEEDS SEVEN NEW MEMBERS

Gatineau, August 17, 2012. – Gatineau needs seven of its dynamic young residents between 12 and 17 years of age for its Commission jeunesse (CJ). Interested candidates have until Friday, September 14, 2012 to apply, and can do so through the CJ Facebook page.

Commission jeunesse

The CJ is first and foremost a school for civic participation, unique in Quebec, but also a special forum for meetings between the Municipal Council and local youth. Its mandate is to make recommendations to the Municipal Council on the planning, development and improvement of the quality of life of Gatineau's teens. This group of 20 young members and three elected officials meets once a month to discuss issues, and to carry out projects that get young people involved.

Once the vacant positions have been filled, the CJ will be co-chaired by Maxime Pedneaud-Jobin, Municipal Councillor for the Buckingham district, and the new co-chair appointed in June, 17 year-old Sophie Reinhardt. As co-chair, Sophie, who has been actively involved in the CJ for five years, would like to get more youth involved in order to increase their participation in civic affairs, and at the same time get more projects up and running to enhance Gatineau's reputation and that of its next generation.

For additional information and to apply for the vacant positions, candidates can go to the Commission jeunesse Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cjgatineau.
