REMINDER ABOUT THE USE OF GATINEAU'S DRINKING WATER DURING HEAT WAVES

Gatineau, July 22, 2011. – With the heat wave upon us, Gatineau reminds residents to be responsible and reasonable with their use of drinking water given that the demand for it is so much greater.

Over the coming days, it will be important to avoid any overconsumption caused by filling pools and watering flower beds.

The by-law on the use of drinking water is in effect until September 30. Violators could be fined $200 (plus costs) for a first offence.

The municipality also invites residents to cool off at the public beaches, pools and wading pools, which remain open longer given the situation.

Gatineau reminds everyone to act prudently by remaining properly hydrated and reducing their level of physical activity, and thanks residents in advance for their cooperation.

For additional information about hours of access to fountains and pools, as well as the by-law on drinking water, visit www.gatineau.ca or call 3-1-1.
