REMINDER: JUNE 3 TO 12, 2011, GATINEAU RESIDENTS ARE INVITED TO CELEBRATE GATINEAU WEEK!

Gatineau, June 1, 2011. – Gatineau invites every one of its residents to discover their city by taking part in Gatineau Week, from June 3 to 12, 2011. The theme for this year's event, which is part of Quebec's Semaine des municipalités, is about encouraging eco-responsible action (Encourageons les gestes écoresponsables!)

"During this annual event, residents get to familiarize themselves with the different services offered by Ville de Gatineau as well as with its infrastructures. Among the many activities organized for this celebration, there will be the very popular visit to the municipal fire halls and the municipal public library's giant used book sale. I also invite everyone to come to the Rendez-vous des familles on June 4 and 5 at four different sites at the city's four corners," indicated Gatineau Mayor Marc Bureau.

Launching the Festivities on the Weekend of June 3, 4 and 5

From the very start of this fun-filled week, residents are invited to take part in the festive Fleurs de macadam (Friday, June 3), to visit the always popular Giant Used Book Sale organized by the Gatineau public library (June 4 and 5), to attend the season opening of the Symmes Inn Museum and its new summer exhibition (Sunday, June 5), and while they're at it, to organize a nice little party for Fête des voisins (June 3, 4 and 5).

The Rendez-vous des familles

In addition, over the weekend, you can take part in the Rendez-vous des familles. Various shows and entertainment have been arranged for all four sites so that residents in every sector of Gatineau can join in this fun-filled event.

Municipal employees will also be on hand to talk about the services offered by Gatineau for the environment, the Bureau de l'ombudsman, the library's different points of service, the tags and graffiti prevention program and the Service de police.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., come and celebrate:

Saturday, June 4:
• at parc Gilles-Maisonneuve (Masson-Angers and Buckingham sectors)
• at parc du Lac-Leamy (Hull sector)

Sunday, June 5:
• at parc des Cèdres (Aylmer sector)
• at place de la Cité (Gatineau sector)

Other Activities

For the second part of Gatineau Week, on Wednesday evening, June 8, residents will have a chance to discover the history of ruisseau de la Brasserie with Michel Prévost, President of the Société d'histoire de l'Outaouais, to do a tour of the municipal fire halls on Saturday, June 11 for a peek behind the scenes, and to take one of two guided tours of Gatineau's wastewater treatment plant on Sunday, June 12.

Take the Bus!

The Société de transport de l'Outaouais, a partner in this event, makes it easy and cheap to get to these sites, thanks to the Plani-Bus and the Family Fare. For additional information, consult www.sto.ca.

This year once again, everyone is welcome to join in the activities offered as part of this event filled with discoveries, surprises and the joyful pleasures of Gatineau!
