GATINEAU ASKS RESIDENTS TO COMMENT ON ITS REVISIONS TO THE FIRE SAFETY COVER PLAN AT A PUBLIC CONSULTATION
Gatineau, November 21, 2012. – Gatineau is inviting its residents to a public consultation on the revisions to the fire safety cover plan (SCRI) on Wednesday, December 12 at Maison du citoyen's salle des Fêtes.
Revising the Fire Safety Cover Plan
The SCRI, which is essentially a municipal action plan against fire risks that is designed to give Gatineau residents as much protection as possible, was adopted by Quebec's Minister of Public Safety on August 16, 2006. Since being implemented, 56 of its 61 objectives have been or are on the way to being achieved. In other words, 92% of its objectives have been met.
As required under the Fire Safety Act, municipalities are required to periodically revise their plan, including in the sixth year following its introduction, in order to ensure maximum protection for residents within the limits of affordability under existing budgets.
The Act also provides that before the plan is submitted to the Minister for approval, a public consultation must be held, which is the reason for this consultation evening.
Public Consultation Process
Residents have until December 12, 2012 to submit comments by filling out the form on the municipal Web site at www.gatineau.ca.
The report on the public consultation will be attached to the draft revision adopted by Gatineau Municipal Council, and sent to Quebec's Minister of Public Safety.
The Minister will review the contents of the draft revision and the consultation report before approving the draft or recommending changes to it.
The documents required to prepare for the consultation are available through the municipal service centres and the Web site at www.gatineau.ca.
