Update at 7 a.m.: 1,749 tornado victims registered

Gatineau, September 27, 2018, at 7 a.m. – Last night, 116 people were put up in local hotels, and 80 stayed at the Centre communautaire Père-Arthur-Guertin. To date, 1,749 tornado victims have registered at the victims centre.

Gatineau thanks everyone for their tremendous generosity. Only personal hygiene products and non-perishable goods are being accepted at this point. Cooked foods cannot be accepted.

Services to victims

Forwarded mail – Temporary Canada Post sites

Tornado victims will be able to pick up their mail at one of two temporary Canada Post sites as follows:
- 120 rue Edmonton: Monday to Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- 16 rue Bériault: Monday to Friday, from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
- To get their mail forwarded free of charge by Canada Post, tornado victims must register at the Canada Post / Mail Forwarding address. They can also do so in person at any Canada Post outlet.
- Valid government-issued photo ID will be requested when picking up mail.

Registration and location of tornado victims

Tornado victims who have not yet registered at the victims centre can do so by calling 1-800-863-6582.
To find out whether someone has registered at the victims centre, call the 311 non-urgent call centre. For calls from outside Gatineau, use the 1-866-299-2002 toll-free number.

Donations and assistance from residents

Residents can also drop off donations at the former Sears location on the ground floor of Galeries de Hull (320 boulevard. Saint-Joseph, Hull sector). Again, only personal hygiene and non-perishable goods will be accepted.
Residents wishing to help the tornado victims can make a cash donation through the Red Cross at www.gatineau.ca/croix-rouge.
Businesses wishing to offer their services are asked to contact the Service des approvisionnements de la Ville de Gatineau at 819-243-2315.
Donations of materials that can be distributed directly to the victims (baby items, non-perishable food, etc.) should be addressed to the Salvation Army at 1-438-888-9715 or through retablissement@armeedusalut.ca.
Residents can also drop off donations at the former Sears location on the ground floor of Galeries de Hull (320 boulevard. Saint-Joseph, Hull sector).
Donations should be dropped off at door 5 inside the mall. They will be accepted during Galeries de Hull business hours.

Distribution of donations to the victims

Donations will be distributed from noon to 8 p.m. until Friday at the former Sears location on the ground floor of Galeries de Hull (320 boulevard Saint-Joseph, Hull sector).
Special STO shuttles will be available to take tornado victims to and from the distribution location. They will depart from the centre communautaire Père-Arthur-Guertin, at 16 rue Bériault.
