Situation update - heavy rainfall

Gatineau, October 30, 2017. – Gatineau is keeping a close eye on the situation. Crews are still deployed. The situation is slowly returning to normal now that the rain has stopped.
From the time that the rainfall started (night of October 28 to 29) until around 2 p.m. on October 30, between 90 and 111 mm of rain fell, depending on the sector.
-The heaviest hit sectors were Gatineau and Aylmer.
- There was a little bit less rain in the eastern part.
92 people checked in at the centre communautaire Le Baron throughout the day today. Approximately 27 of them are still there.
- The Red Cross is on hand.
- Representatives of the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux Outaouais (CISSO) are also on hand to provide psychosocial support.
48 people were voluntarily evacuated from parc Riviera as a preventive measure.
Between midnight and 3:30 this afternoon, CANU had received 837 calls, 245 of which were to report sewer back-ups and 83 to report blocked drain wells.

Road conditions

The departments are monitoring the situation and are reopening some of the streets.
The crews are closing and opening streets as required. The information is being updated on the Web site.
A map of closed streets has been posted on the municipal Web site. That map is being updated in real time. Updates are posted once the information has been confirmed by our municipal departments.
The culverts at 3e Avenue and 5e Avenue are being inspected.
Boulevard de la Verendrye is closed between rue Paquette and Montée Paiement.
Boulevard Maloney is closed along Lac Beauchamp between rue Côtéville and Chemin du Lac.
All lanes on highway 50 have been reopened.

Preventive tips

Drivers are asked to slow down when approaching areas where the water has accumulated on the road.

Quick facts

Although water has accumulated in a number of areas, river levels are below the warning marks.
Gatineau has an emergency measures plan for dealing with this type of situation.
