Update – Water levels stabilizing

Gatineau, May 29, 2022. – The water levels projected by the experts will be reached sometime today, and are stabilizing. Shoreline residents are encouraged to keep their sand bag dikes in place until further notice. Once Gatineau announces that they can be dismantled, people can leave their sand bags curbside for the two collections that have been arranged.


Quick facts

There is no cause for concern regarding the rising waters. Gatineau's position remains the same, in “monitoring” mode.
Gatineau crews remain on standby and ready to step in if necessary as the situation evolves.
- Gatineau police continue to patrol the Gatineau River.
The water level for the Gatineau River should start falling early in the week.
Shoreline residents are asked to keep checking for information on our:
- social media;
- website; or
- alerts.

Sand bag collection

Gatineau plans to hold two sand bag collections: on Thursday, June 2 and on Thursday, June 9.
Once Gatineau announces that the dikes can be dismantled, residents can leave their sand bags alongside the road.
- After June 9, it will be up to residents to bring their sand bags to the disposal site (location to be announced).
It should be noted that municipal crews will not dismantle any dikes.

Financial assistance programs

Shoreline residents, organizations and victims can apply for financial assistance to cover costs incurred in preparing for an actual or imminent disaster:
- Financial assistance and compensation provided by Quebec's ministère de la Sécurité publique for property owners and tenants; and
- Financial assistance provided for municipalities affected by a disaster and for community organizations.
