News release
Temporary closure of Gatineau municipal pools and beaches

Gatineau, September 1, 2021. – Ville de Gatineau is hereby informing the public of the temporary closure of all of its municipal pools and beaches.

This preventive closure comes further to the recommendation of Santé publique to screen all personnel working in those locations. A few of cases of COVID-19 have been detected among them, which prompted the recommendation.

It is important to note that, according to the information currently available to us, the source of the virus was outside our facilities, outside of work. In view of the sanitary measures in effect in workplaces, the risk to the public is very low.

Gatineau opted for the prudent approach in order to ensure the safety of its staff and the public.

It should be noted that the splash pads remain open to give the public a chance to cool off.

Quick facts

The public will be notified of the resumption of aquatic activities as soon as we are given a date. The final decision will be based on the results of the epidemiological investigation currently being done by Santé publique.
As indicated, the splash pads will remain open to give the public a chance to cool off.
Since the start of the pandemic, Gatineau has followed the measures prescribed by Santé publique to reduce the risk of propagation:
- physical distancing between staff and the public;
- procedural masks worn by staff at all times;
- sites cleaned at the very least two to three times a day; and
- staff fill out a questionnaire every day to assess their state of health.
Gatineau works in collaboration with its health care partners, ensuring continuous monitoring of the situation
As recommended by the Government of Quebec, anyone with symptoms or questions about COVID-19 should call 1-877-644-4545.
