Winterlude's Snowflake Kingdom is officially open!
Gatineau, January 29, 2016. – Winterlude's Snowflake Kingdom is officially open! Located in Jacques-Cartier Park, in Gatineau, it will welcome visitors until February 15, 2016!
The theme for this 38th edition of the event is Discover the Great Canadian North.
In addition to its famous traditional slides, the Snowflake Kingdom is proposing a tremendously varied program lineup. A number of activities, introductions to different sports and shows for kids of all ages await visitors. There are also several new features this year:
- All of the slides and snow sculptures will be lit up at night. - On the third weekend, the Snowflake Kingdom will host La Guerre des tuques 3D and its team. A theme-specific activity area will be recreated, where visitors will get to meet their favourite characters! - The Maple Corner, presented by local producers, will offer maple syrup product tastings. - Dog sled rides will be available in the XTREME Zone!
A number of artists will perform on the Snowflake Kingdom Stage, including Shilvi, Atchoum and Parka, and many more that will be sure to delight young and old.
The famous Mama and Papa Ice Hog mascots will be on hand, along with their children, Noumi and Nouma, who are well known for their warm hugs for kids, and for how much they love being photographed! The Snowflake Kingdom is the Ice Hog Family's home away from home.
A pretty impressive Kingdom!
- More than 35,000 cubic metres of snow will be made to create this winter wonderland. - Every slide can accommodate more than 2,000 sledders and hour. - An average of 100 people are on hand at all times to look after visitors. - More than 400 volunteers are available to make sure that everything runs smoothly. - Approximately 80 temporary jobs are created for the 14 days of the event, representing 4,400 hours of work.

This year once again, more than 200,000 visitors are expected at the Snowflake Kingdom.
