The Snowflake Kingdom in Gatineau: a giant winter playground!

Gatineau, January 12, 2017. – Tons of fun and new activities await visitors to the Snowflake Kingdom in Gatineau. From February 3 to 20, 2017 Jacques-Cartier Park will turn into a giant winter playground!

Quick facts

New activities awaiting visitors this year!

In addition to the famous slides for which the Snowflake Kingdom is so well known, this year there will be a whole slew of new activities for visitors.
Mother Earth, the landmark piece of MosaïCanada 150/Gatineau 2017, will be sculpted out of snow. Mother Earth will be illuminated through a digital art projection after dark until 9 p.m. from Thursday to Sunday. That projection will be a nod to the event that will be taking place from July 1 to October 15, 2017 at Jacques-Cartier Park in Gatineau. MosaïCanada 150/Gatineau 2017 is part of the festivities surrounding the 150th anniversary of Canada's confederation.
An extreme zip-line ride, twice as imposing as in previous years, will cross over the central slides area!
The 2017 National Snow Sculpture RendezVous will be back after a seven-year hiatus. Canada's five regions will be represented, and a national contest will give visitors the chance to vote for their favourite sculpture. The following are the five regions that will be represented:
- the Atlantic
- the St. Lawrence and the Great Lakes
- the Prairies
- the Pacific
- the North
A snow maze will be built at the foot of a new group slide: the Blizzard. That will make a total of five slides at the Snowflake Kingdom, for a total of 21 sliding lanes!
Musical bicycles will remix the songs of different artists at the pace of the cyclists. That activity will take place over the second weekend.
There will be an extreme aerial acrobatics and wall trampoline show.
Shows and buskers will be on hand throughout the site.
Some of the activities will take place in Maison Charron, including the Book Fair, Gatineau 2017 and Tourisme Outaouais.

Social media developments

Gatineau will take advantage of #SnowflakeKingdom to officially open its Snapchat account. Visitors to the Snowflake Kingdom are invited to use the geofilter created for the occasion. That filter will be available on the Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, as well as on Monday, February 20, 2017.

Coming back in 2017!

Naturally, the famous slides will be back: the Iceberg, the Glacier, the Chinook and the Bout de chou, which will be joined by the new group slide, the Blizzard.
The Ice Hog family, which includes Papa, Mama, Noumi and Nouma, will once again set up camp at the Snowflake Kingdom. Be ready for lots of hugs!
There will be an introduction to downhill skiing for the little ones.
The giant games will provide loads of fun!
Visitors will be able to warm up at the outdoor fireplaces.
Dog sled rides will be available on the weekends.
