News release
Gradual opening of play structures in parks starting tomorrow, and opening of outdoor pools to be announced

Gatineau, June 2, 2020. – Ville de Gatineau will be gradually reopening its play structures starting today, and its outdoor pools as soon as it gets the green light from the Government of Quebec. Gatineau has reviewed the Government of Quebec's decision announced on Saturday. All necessary measures will be put in place by the teams working on restarting these activities in accordance with the government directives issued today.

Quick facts

Gatineau would very much like to ensure a stimulating and fun summer for Gatineau families, while protecting their safety.
Even though sanitary measures will be introduced by Gatineau, users must follow personal protection and hygiene measures for their own safety, as recommended by Santé publique:

- frequently wash their hands with an alcohol based disinfectant or with soap and warm water, if available;
- cough and sneeze into their elbow;
- toss out tissues and wipes after their use; and
- wear a mask when physical distancing is not possible (except when swimming).
In the current pandemic world, it is important to maintain the current physical distancing measures. Gatineau will continue to monitor the parks to raise public awareness and to post signs to that effect.

Municipal parks

Outdoor play structures and furniture in municipal parks can once again be used by residents. Gatineau will be gradually reopening them starting today.
Gatineau recommends that parents be vigilant in terms of observing the sanitary measures after children have been playing for a while on the structures. Those measures also apply when using the urban furniture.
The signs indicating that the parks are closed will be removed during the week.

Outdoor pools

The plan for opening up the outdoor pools for the summer of 2020 will have to be adjusted in accordance with the provincial government's instructions. This plan is being prepared by municipal staff.
The goal is to open the 7 outdoor pools and 8 wading pools by the end of June.

Splash pads

On May 27, the Direction de santé publique de l'Outaouais gave Gatineau the go-ahead to open its splash pads for the heat wave.
Of the 40 splash pads, 32 are now open.
Repairs are being done at the 8 remaining parks. These will open once the repairs have been completed.
