Work on boulevard Maloney: preventive boil water advisory in the Gatineau sector
Gatineau, November 30, 2022. – Ville de Gatineau is issuing a preventive boil water advisory in the Gatineau sector connected to planned work on boulevard Maloney. This will come into effect at 5 a.m. on Thursday, December 1. A drop in the water pressure or an interruption in the water supply should be expected at that time. We are counting on all residents in the sector to reduce their consumption of tap water until the work is completed later in the day. This advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
Preventive boil water advisory
●
Homes and buildings affected by the preventive boil water advisory are those located: - west of avenue du Cheval-Blanc; - east of montée Paiement; - north of the Ottawa River; and - south of autoroute 50.
●
This area is shown at the end of this news release.
●
It should be noted that this advisory is being issued due to planned repairs on a watermain under boulevard Maloney Ouest.
●
Until the advisory is lifted, affected individuals and establishments will have to boil their tap water for one minute before consuming it.
●
Once the boil water advisory has been lifted: - All cold water taps will have to be opened and the water left to run for one minute or until it is cold before it can be consumed. The same applies to water fountains. - Ice made with boiled water during the advisory must be discarded. - For additional information, go to gatineau.ca or call 311.
Water pressure drop and supply interruption in the affected area
●
As of 5 a.m. on December 1, a drop in pressure or an interruption in the water supply should be expected by anyone using tap water. The situation is expected to return to normal by the end of the same day.
●
It should be noted that the boil water advisory will remain in effect until further notice, even if the water pressure returns to normal.
●
It is recommended that people have a supply of water on hand for their personal use, for instance to flush the toilet. This will reduce any inconveniences if you live in the affected area.
●
Tricks and tips: - Store one or more jugs of water in the refrigerator for cooking, drinking, pets, etc. - Fill your bathtub with water so you can transfer it to your toilet tank to flush. - During the interruption, avoid using any hot water because if your water heater ends up empty, its elements will overheat.
Minimize your consumption of tap water in the Gatineau sector
●
Residents in the Gatineau sector are asked to reduce their consumption of tap water as much as possible while the repairs are underway.
●
It will be easier to replenish the water reservoirs for the affected areas if everyone cooperates.
●
If you can, please avoid doing laundry, taking a bath or shower, and using the dishwasher while the work is underway.
