Funeral Mask of Tutankhamun

Donated by the Arab Republic of Egypt to the former city of Hull. The unveiling on July 23, 2001, Egypt's National Day, was attended by His Excellency Ambassador Sallama Shaker and Mayor Yves Ducharme. The mask was offered to the city by Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Youth.

This reproduction is a true replica of Tutankhamun's funeral mask. The mask was made in 1323 B.C. by an Egyptian craftsman after the young pharaoh's death, capturing his features for eternity. Tutankhamun became Pharaoh at age 9, and died in his late teens. He reigned over Pharaonic Egypt from 1333 to 1323 B.C. On November 26, 1922, Howard Carter made archaeological history when he unearthed the famous tomb. The young Pharaoh's mummy was found intact in its original sarcophagus. Despite Tutankhamun's very short reign, his mask has become a roving ambassador of Egypt throughout the world.
