Zeng Houyi Bells

Donated by the People's Republic of China to the former city of Hull. The unveiling on April 30, 2001 was attended by His Excellency Ambassador Mei Ping, and Mayor Yves Ducharme. The bells were offered to the city by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China.

The Zeng Houyi Bells (replica) are a musical instrument from the Warring States Period (475–221 B.C.) in China. They were excavated in 1978 from the tomb of Zeng Houyi, Marquis Yi of Zeng State, in Sui County, Hubei Province, in the early part of that period. These bells are the largest ancient percussion instrument ever unearthed.
