The fourth strategic direction “Participatory governance and responsible management” demonstrates the importance Gatineau attaches to close collaboration among the municipal players and its municipal priorities.

In 2004, the Commission des choix stratégiques conducted an in-depth study on participatory governance and democratic life. Gatineau's Framework for residents' participation in municipal affairs arose out of this exercise. This reference framework enabled Gatineau to develop the public consultation structures and mechanisms we see today.

Gatineau's elected officials and staff, who remain committed to assigning a key role to residents in the decision-making process, work for the well-being of its community. Participation by residents and dialogue with the public are essential factors in the success of our different projects.

Upon completion of every public consultation process, a consultation report is prepared, providing a key opportunity to record the comments made during the public consultation.
