Gatineau, March 13, 2014. – Gatineau is asking residents in the Buckingham and Masson-Angers sectors to cooperate by reducing their use of municipal tap water during peak hours because of the work being done on modernizing the water treatment plant in the Buckingham sector.

Gatineau is asking residents in these sectors to lend a hand by reducing their use of tap water between March 15 and 31 on weekdays from 5 to 8 a.m. and from 5 to 8 p.m. If everyone does their part during these periods, when the use of tap water is at its peak, everyone will have enough water to meet their basic needs (food preparation, personal hygiene, etc.). We suggest that washing machines and dishwashers in particular only be operated at other times of the day or night.

The purpose of the work is to upgrade the water reservoir. This is but one of the stages of the expansion and modernization work on the Buckingham water treatment plant that started in the spring of 2013 and should be completed in April 2015.

Modernizing the Buckingham water treatment plant will optimize the quality of service provided to residents in the Buckingham and Masson-Angers sectors. The benefits include:
• upgrading and replacing the current equipment;
• an almost 50% increase in production capacity (from 24,000 m3 per day to 36,000 m3 per day); and
• turning this into the first plant in Gatineau to use a biological process that integrates the top leading edge technologies, that is to say interozonation, biological activated carbon filtration, and UV light disinfection.

Gatineau thanks residents for their understanding and cooperation throughout this project.
