VILLE DE GATINEAU HAS INVESTED $7.7 MILLION IN AYLMER SECTOR
Gatineau, September 13, 2011. – Ville de Gatineau announced yesterday that the work on rue Principale in the Aylmer sector has now been completed.
In total, $14.4 million have been invested by Ville de Gatineau, the provincial and federal governments and Hydro-Québec in the work under the two phases.
Phase 1:
Ville de Gatineau used the Programme d'infrastructures Québec-Municipalités (PIQM) and the multi-partner Enfouissement des réseaux câblés sur des sites d'intérêt patrimonial et culturel (cable burials around heritage and cultural sites) program run by Hydro-Québec to:
• bury the cables under rue Principale between rue Front and rue Broad;
• install municipal utilities over a portion of rue Front, rue Dalhousie and rue Bancroft;
• landscape; and
• build a sort of traffic circle at the end of rue Principale, at the entrance to the des Cèdres marina parking lot.
Phase 2:
Ville de Gatineau used the Programme de renouvellement des conduites (PRECO) to:
• rehabilitate or replace water supply and sewer pipes between rue Broad and boulevard Wilfrid-Lavigne.
"This major investment of $7.7 million by Gatineau?matched almost equally by the other government levels?has helped make rue Principale an even more dynamic, lively and welcoming artery than before. The repair and improvement of municipal utilities is a priority for Gatineau, and this work is one more example of this commitment," indicated Gatineau Mayor Marc Bureau.
With the support of the provincial and federal governments, through the Programme de renouvellement des conduites (PRECO), more than $52 million has been invested since 2010 in work on drinking water, wastewater and stormwater pipes along street sections in every Gatineau sector to enhance the quality of life of residents.
Gatineau would like to thank businesses and residents for their collaboration and patience throughout the work on rue Principale. Once the work has been completed, everyone will see how much more beautiful this already lively neighbourhood has become!
